Australia's multiculturalism has been the basis of the nation's multi-faith standard, which has allowed for the widening of it's religious landscape. Post 1945 Australia saw the abolishment and adjustment of the countries laws on immigration, allowing countless people of the world's troubled nations, including Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, to migrate and take permanent residence within it's borders. With these immigrants came numerous adherents of a diverse range of religious faiths, which widened the nations religious landscape. Previous to the eventful year of 1945, Australia had one major denominating religious tradition, Christianity. Within Christianity were several denominations including adherents like Catholics, Anglicans and Orthodox. Post 1945 saw the diversification of new denominations, including the Pentecostals, who grew as at enormous rate, due to denominational switching. Australian history has seen the attempted ecumenism of these denominations, with Anglo-Catholics empathizing with each variants belief; however several sectarians have gone against this aim, with their narrow-minded emphasis on the difference between each denomination. The institutionalization of Christianity had set the religious tradition as the official religion of the nation, however the arrival of several New Age religions and spiritualities saw this threatened. With the arrival of this New Age movement, there also came secularization, with more and more people abandoning religion and spirituality in general. This secularization has been the result of inner and outer faith conflicts, which could be due to a clash of ideas and beliefs or the idea's of sectarians. However, there has not only been a loss of faith within post 1945 Australia. Following the eventful year of 1945, adherents of all religious diversity have made attempts at interfaith dialogue, with religious leaders emphasizing the importance of communicating and cooperating with adherents of differing religious and spiritual faiths. This interfaith dialogue allowed for the similarities to be highlighted, such as each religious traditions belief and worship of a higher power, and concepts like reconciliation, which allowed for past conflicts and tensions to be settled, and a united and multi-faith Australia to be developed.
